-Edmonton police are releasing a series of surveillance videos of suspects in those home builder extortion schemes.
It’s known as “Project Gaslight”, where South Asian home builders are being told to come up with cash, or their projects and homes will be set on fire.
Investigators say several arsons are linked with the matter, as they’re investigating 34 events.
On Nov. 6, 2023, in the area of 16 Avenue and 12 Street, three suspects are seen getting out of a vehicle with a gas can, and later running back to the same vehicle. Police are looking for information on the identities of the three suspects in the video and any information on their activities on Nov. 6, 2024.

On Dec. 14, 2023, at a residence in the area of 42 Avenue and 38A Street in Beaumont, surveillance video shows two suspects approaching a home, breaking into it, and starting a fire. Police are looking to identify the person carrying the red jerry can, wearing white shoes and a grey hooded sweatshirt, and are looking for any information on the activities of the two on Dec. 14.

On Dec. 31, 2023, a suspect driving an SUV is seen arriving at a home in the area of 16 Avenue and 12 Street, then later driving away shortly before smoke begins rising from the building. Prior to the fire, a newer model white four-door Mercedes with heavily tinted windows was also seen circling the area. Police are looking for any information on both vehicles, their owners and their activities on that date.

On Jan. 28, 2024, two male suspects are seen entering a Walmart at 1203 Parsons Road, purchasing a gas can, and walking out of the store. Police are looking to identify the suspect in the camouflage jacket. The other suspect has been identified. Police are looking for any information about his activities on this date.

Also on Jan. 28, 2024, a male suspect carrying a gas can is seen entering and exiting a 7/11 at 803 Saddleback Road, and later filling the can at the pumps. This suspect has been identified, and police are looking for any information about his activities on this date.

A fire that began on the Cold Lake First Nations Monday afternoon, moved into the MD of Bonnyville yesterday, causing MD officials to declare a state of local emergency, and ordering people to evacuate.
It had been built by the U-S military back in 1942, and was one of the last such buildings in Canada, but the fire Monday night destroyed it.
The fire also destroyed plans to turn the building into a mixed commercial-residential space.-In the meantime, NAIT says the air quality in its main campus building has cleared enough that it was re-opened to staff and students again this morning.
They were forced to have classes done virtually yesterday because of the smoke from the hangar fire.
Tim Carson is the head of the Alberta Association of Ag Societies, and says the deadline is April 30th.
